Content to Personal Data Usage

Limerick Dental Specialists is a Data Controller under the terms of the Data Protection Act 2017. We take great care with all of the personal data we hold, to ensure we comply with the best professional practice within the law.

This document is a guide to our policy for maintaining the confidentiality of all personal information and all members of the practice team are required to comply with these safeguards as part of their contract of employment or contract for services with the practice.

How we process your data:

  1. Patient data is held for the purpose of providing patients with appropriate, high because it is in our Legitimate Interest to do so. Without holding the data we cannot work effectively.
  2. Secure storage of your data for as long as is required legally. We will archive data (that is, store it without further action) for as long as is required for legal purposes as recommended by the Dental Council of Ireland or other trusted experts recommend.
  3. Communication with 3rd parties: Patient data may be shared with other healthcare professionals who need to be involved in your care (for example the referring practitioner or if you need laboratory work undertaken). Patient data may also be stored for back-up purposes with our computer software suppliers.
  4. Contacting you by post, email, phone or text message in relation to your dental treatment or appointments

There are certain activities where patient information may be used but where the information is anonymised, eliminating patient identification:

  • Teaching Continuing Professional Development.
  • Case studies are a very useful learning tool
  • Quality Assurance/Internal audit. Audit is a necessary tool in assessing and assuring the quality of your care Research
